MSc "Exercise & Health"

OBJECTIVE – PURPOSE

The subject of the Postgraduate Studies Program (MSc) in “Exercise and Health” is to provide postgraduate students with education that enables them to acquire a strong scientific background, experience, and expertise in a particularly dynamic field of modern science.

Specifically, the aims of the MSc program are:

  • Understanding exercise-induced biological adaptations and their importance for the health of individuals
  • Practical training in assessment and monitoring aimed at improving health and athletic performance
  • Prevention and management of sports injuries, diseases, and other limiting factors associated with lifelong physical activity and health maintenance
  • Design of advisory interventions at mass and amateur levels to promote health and quality of life
  • Conducting applied research and publishing scientific work to advance the relationship between health and exercise

The MSc program provides specialized knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Health promotion and physical well-being,
  • The effects of exercise on health indicators across all age groups,
  • Systematic medical monitoring of individuals participating in sports activities,
  • Prevention and management of diseases and injuries in high-level athletes,
  • Recovery following training or competition,
  • Safe medical coverage of sports activities,
  • Awareness and prevention of doping and the use of ergogenic aids,
  • Implementation of an Athlete Health Card to safeguard participants’ health.

Graduates of the MSc program will be able to:

       A. Prepare for doctoral-level postgraduate studies and work in international and national organizations and services related to Exercise and Health,

       B. Teach in Schools of Physical Education, Public Administration, and Public Health, in Higher Technological Institutions, as well as in Secondary Education,

       C. Work in positions requiring relevant knowledge and expertise,

      D. Additionally, the program aims to provide further training for professionals already working in relevant organizations and services, enhancing the quality of the services they offer.

The MSc program leads to the award of a Master’s Degree in “Exercise and Health” upon successful completion of studies in accordance with the curriculum.

The degree is awarded by the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
