Scholarship Announcement for Advanced Training in Therapeutic Exercise

The Department of Sports Excellence of the 1st Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), with exclusive funding from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), announces its collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University and invites applications for a scholarship program aimed at training interested candidates in the implementation of Therapeutic Exercise programs, within the framework of developing Therapeutic Exercise centers in Greece.

The scholarship program is implemented through an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to Yorkshire Cancer Research and will be carried out in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University. Training will take place at Sheffield Hallam University, located in Sheffield, United Kingdom. Scholars will have the opportunity to be trained in exercise protocols for clinical populations and to participate in research projects related to the role of exercise in the prevention and management of chronic non-communicable diseases, as well as in promoting health and well-being in the general population. Additionally, scholars will be able to observe and participate in the Yorkshire Cancer Research program “Active Together,” a therapeutic exercise program for cancer patients.


1. The scholarship is addressed to:

  • Physicians (Physiatrists, Orthopaedic Surgeons, General Practitioners) interested in developing expertise in therapeutic exercise

  • Physical Education teachers

  • Physiotherapists

  • Sports Psychologists

Academic level:

  • Postgraduate students

  • PhD candidates

  • PhD holders


2. Requirements:

  • Copy of degree or certificate of completion of studies

  • Copy of academic transcripts for all years of study (undergraduate, postgraduate, or doctoral)

  • Detailed CV in English, including academic background, research/professional activity, and interests

  • Two letters of recommendation in English

  • Proof of English (or other foreign language) proficiency


3. Duration:
The stay in the Sheffield area is set at 3 months.


4. Coverage of expenses:
The scholarship covers travel and accommodation expenses and includes a fixed daily allowance for living costs.


5. Selection process:
Applications are submitted electronically via the application form. Final selection is carried out by a scientific committee with representatives from both universities, following evaluation of CVs and a personal interview.

Note: Part of the interview process will be conducted in English.


6. Training evaluation:
Scholars are required to maintain a training diary and logbook for each activity and are evaluated monthly on their progress by their supervisors (Sheffield Hallam University). If necessary, recommendations will be made, and in case of non-compliance, the scholarship may be terminated.


The organizational and administrative support of the scholarship program is provided by “Regeneration & Progress,” which operates through an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
